It was all hands on deck earlier this month as staff and volunteers worked together to add new plants to our showpiece garden beds.
Just below the Fountain Pond, our Sun Garden features many perennials that are especially attractive to bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. This area really hits its high notes in August and September, and with the addition of several new plants it’s livelier than ever, zooming and buzzing with insects at work. We added summer color with dahlias and zinnias, as well as two varieties of Agastache, “Poquito” and “Rosie Posie.” A new compact Buddleia, “Pugster Blue,” is already living up to its common name of butterfly bush. We filled in with English lavender and lantana to keep the bed humming.
A favorite with couples getting married on the main lawn, the Gazebo Bed has been planted to ensure a cheerful mix of color and shape throughout the wedding season and beyond. We brought in some fresh whites with new Echinacea, “Pow Wow White,” alongside spikes of Penstemon heterophyllus “GMR White” and clouds of Achillea “Peter Cottontail. ”
The Triangle Bed welcomes visitors at the main entrance with a show of blues and purples. We punched things up with some new brilliant pink salvias, chiapensis and “Love and Wishes.”
