Haiku in the Summer Garden
Summertime & The Garden is Pleasing at Marin Art & Garden Center
The deepest mystery is awaiting your embrace! All that it begs is your attention to what the poet, Wordsworth. called the “music of humanity.” If summer were a symbol, it might be a sideways eight for infinity; if a song, hot days would play the musical bridge, if it were a life stage, it might best describe the teenager or young adult.
Now ask yourself, when was it time you felt expectation so great that the hands of time or place reached out to pull you there? So it is with nature’s cycles. Summer can be that booming voice that you willingly heed to embrace the great outdoors. As you embark on celebratory pursuits like trail blazing, languishing in sun and warmth, you’re invited to surrender in circadian rhythm as you write about its poetry in haiku.
The longest days are here and fledgling birds must fly by grace to hone their innate wisdom or defer to mentoring elders. What will you leap towards to allow your destiny flight? How will you strut in all vitality now that you’ve beheld summer’s force to be reckoned with?
Come with us as we seek shade under the brightest sunlight. Test your skills as you pause to express how nature’s music sings. In this haiku soiree, we’ll gather, write and share, as a toast, saluting the gifts found in these pristine gardens.
Your guide, poet Jayne McPherson, will introduce traditional and modern haiku and offer exercises to open and engage the senses. Welcoming all ages, this is a shared, fun stay-cation afternoon to cultivate well-being as a healthy choice.
Writing is rewarding but haiku writing is the toast of a soiree!
This free workshop has a minimum of 2 participants and a maximum of 32. This soiree is offered to all ages and children under 14 may sign up with an adult. Please bring pen and paper or your preferred writing supplies.
