Michael manages a runaway
Come one, come all! As a gardener to some very public gardens, I have observed some self-evident truths about the shared spaces that are public gardens. In no particular order—except for safety first—they are as follows:
- Safety first.
- Expect the unexpected.
- Always be kind to children.
- Always know where the nearest first aid kit is.
- Meet every visitor with kindness and respect.
- Sometimes, just stop to listen: to birds, wind, people…
- If you’re a public garden gardener, you’d better like plants and people.
- People will be people.
- Plants can be just as divisive as religion and politics!
- It’s not dogs, it’s their people.
- No good deed goes unpunished.
- There will always be litter.
- If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
- Nature has the final say.
