Other Ways to Give

What does my donation support?

Thank you for considering a gift to Marin Art and Garden Center. As a nonprofit, we rely on donations from people like you to keep our gardens accessible and vibrant for everyone. Your donation helps us maintain our beautiful gardens and provide events and programs that enrich the local community year-round.

Ways to contribute:

Here are some easy ways you can make a meaningful contribution:

  • Match Your Donation: Many companies offer matching gift programs. Check with your HR department to see if your company will match your donation and double the impact of your gift. For more information, see the How to Match Your Donation section below.

  • Set up a Monthly Donation: Become a sustaining contributor by setting up a monthly or annual donation. These gifts provide reliable support for our programs and gardens. You can set up your donation on our donation page below.

  • Donate through a Donor-Advised Fund: Support us through a donor-advised fund (DAF). Recommend Marin Art and Garden Center as the recipient and provide your name as the advisor. Contact your DAF representative for more information.

  • Commemorative Gifts: If you’re looking for a more tangible way to commemorate a loved one or special event, we offer commemorative benches and bricks. Learn more on our Commemorative Gifts page, or contact our main office at friends@maringarden.org or call our office at 415-455-5260.

How to Match Your Donation

If you’re interested in maximizing your impact, check with your employer to see if they match donations. The process typically involves submitting a request form through your company’s HR department, and they will send the matching gift directly to us. Once we receive it, we will apply it to your donation and send you an updated acknowledgment letter.

Why Match Your Donation?

Matching your donation is a simple way to make a bigger impact. Here’s how it helps:

  • Maximize Your Support: Matching doubles the impact of your donation, helping us keep the garden open and expand our programs.
  • Increased Benefits: Your matched donation increases your Friends of the Garden benefits, giving you more access and perks at the Garden.
  • Corporate Recognition: Many companies recognize employees who participate in matching gift programs. You can inspire others by showing your commitment to the Garden and encourage your employer to support our mission.

Access to American Horticultural Society (AHS) Gardens

One of the many benefits that Friends of the Garden receive is exclusive admission to hundreds of other gardens nationwide through the American Horticultural Society’s network of participating organizations. This includes more than 360 gardens throughout the US!

Local highlights include San Francisco’s Conservatory of Flowers, Botanical Garden, and Japanese Tea Garden. To see a map of all participating gardens across the country, click here.

How do I access my American Horticultural Society membership card?

If your Friends of the Garden membership qualifies you for the AHS reciprocal membership, you can access your e-card by downloading the “eMembership Card” app.

IRS Guidelines for Gifts from Donor Advised Funds to Support MAGC Events

Thank you for your interest in giving to the Marin Art & Garden Center events from your Donor Advised Fund (DAF) or Family Foundation.

We sincerely appreciate your generosity and support!

To ensure your gift follows the current IRS guidelines for DAF/Family Foundation support of an event, we would like to share the below guidelines with you.

  • Raffle tickets, tickets to galas and other special events, auction items, and benefits conferred in connection with a DAF/foundation grant are not permitted.
    • IRS has specifically ruled that fair market value associated with fundraising events cannot be separated, a practice known as “bifurcation.”
      • For example, with Edible Garden, if the price of the ticket is $200 and the FMV fair market value (non-tax-deductible amount) is designated to be $50, the donor must pay from sources other than her DAF/foundation for the full value of the ticket ($200) and not just for the non-tax-deductible amount ($50).
    • We recommend you confer with your financial advisor to confirm if any of these examples of how donors may still use their DAF to support an event would work for you:
      • A donor could sponsor the event, and not attend, and pay fully out of the DAF/foundation.
      • A donor could sponsor the event using DAF/foundation funds and attend by purchasing an individual ticket through non-DAF/foundation funds.
      • A donor could sponsor the event, join the event as a guest of another donor/table guest, and pay fully out of the DAF/foundation.
      • A donor could sponsor the event and host the afforded number of people at their chosen level as long as they pay for the seats at the lowest ticket price ($200 for Edible Garden) outside of their DAF.
        • As an example, a $1,500 sponsor that covers 2 guests, could pay for their sponsorship with $400 from a different source of funds, and then give an additional gift of $1,100 out of their DAF.
