Happy Hive Preschool Afterschool Program

Offered by Ross Recreation in collaboration with the Garden School and Marin Art and Garden Center, the Happy Hive Preschool Afterschool Recreation program is designed for preschoolers ages 2-5 who are fully potty-trained. This fun and engaging extended care program is held on Marin Art and Garden Center campus and offers a variety of activities including arts and crafts, music, nature exploration, and group games, all while encouraging imagination, teamwork, and a love for play.  Naps will be available for kids who may need a short rest after school.

The Happy Hive schedule follows the Garden School academic calendar and includes all minimum days, no-school days, etc.   If school is in session, so are we!  Session One (9/3/25 -12/19/25) provides afterschool care for a total of 70 days /145 hours and Session Two (1/5/26 – 6/3/26) provides afterschool care for 94 days and 193 hours. Program hours are from 1:00pm – 3:00pm with an optional extended option until 4:00pm.

We offer flexible registration options to fit your needs:

  • 5 days per week (Monday through Friday)

  • Flexible days per week (choose any configuration of days)

  • Single-day drop-in ($40/ day)

    • Families may drop-in according to their needs by either registering directly for known days or purchasing a 10-pack of drop-ins. Class packs never expire and can be used towards future drop-in days.

With the combined expertise of these wonderful organizations, the Happy Hive program provides a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment for your child to unwind and thrive after school. Snacks are available and provided to all our busy bees, however, families should provide extra snacks and water each day in your child’s backpack.

IRS Guidelines for Gifts from Donor Advised Funds to Support MAGC Events

Thank you for your interest in giving to the Marin Art & Garden Center events from your Donor Advised Fund (DAF) or Family Foundation.

We sincerely appreciate your generosity and support!

To ensure your gift follows the current IRS guidelines for DAF/Family Foundation support of an event, we would like to share the below guidelines with you.

  • Raffle tickets, tickets to galas and other special events, auction items, and benefits conferred in connection with a DAF/foundation grant are not permitted.
    • IRS has specifically ruled that fair market value associated with fundraising events cannot be separated, a practice known as “bifurcation.”
      • For example, with Edible Garden, if the price of the ticket is $200 and the FMV fair market value (non-tax-deductible amount) is designated to be $50, the donor must pay from sources other than her DAF/foundation for the full value of the ticket ($200) and not just for the non-tax-deductible amount ($50).
    • We recommend you confer with your financial advisor to confirm if any of these examples of how donors may still use their DAF to support an event would work for you:
      • A donor could sponsor the event, and not attend, and pay fully out of the DAF/foundation.
      • A donor could sponsor the event using DAF/foundation funds and attend by purchasing an individual ticket through non-DAF/foundation funds.
      • A donor could sponsor the event, join the event as a guest of another donor/table guest, and pay fully out of the DAF/foundation.
      • A donor could sponsor the event and host the afforded number of people at their chosen level as long as they pay for the seats at the lowest ticket price ($200 for Edible Garden) outside of their DAF.
        • As an example, a $1,500 sponsor that covers 2 guests, could pay for their sponsorship with $400 from a different source of funds, and then give an additional gift of $1,100 out of their DAF.
