Impressions in Ink: Botanical Linocut Printmaking on Greeting Cards
Discover the art of linocut printmaking and create your own beautifully hand-printed greeting cards in this hands-on workshop.
Linocut is a form of relief printmaking that involves carving a design into a sheet of linoleum, applying ink to the raised surface, and pressing it onto paper to produce a bold, striking image.
Originating in the early 20th century as an offshoot of woodcut, linocut became popular for its expressive lines, tactile qualities, and direct engagement with materials. Softer and easier to carve than wood, linoleum is ideal for quick, satisfying prints and intricate detail alike.
In this workshop, we’ll explore the complete linocut process:
- Sketching and transferring your design
- Carving safely and effectively
- Inking and printing by hand and with a linocut press
- Using your block to create a small edition of greeting cards
You’ll leave with a set of unique cards ready to share or send, along with your carved block, ready to re-ink and reuse whenever inspiration strikes.
Handmade prints carry a warmth and immediacy that digital reproductions can’t match. When transferred onto greeting cards, they become both artwork and message: small, tangible gestures of care and creativity. All skill levels welcome!
